Reconstructive tumour surgery

Tumour removal with reconstruction of form and function as far as possible, planned and explained before surgery.

Reconstructive tumour surgery

Removal and reconstruction together

The aim is complete tumour removal, then reconstruction suited to the size and site of the excision, whether in the breast, skin or face.

When is it considered?

  • When removal would affect the shape or function of the area.
  • When the wound can be closed or reconstructed in the same operation.
  • When another specialty needs to be involved.

What is explained beforehand

The expected reconstruction, the number of stages if any, and what returns to normal and what needs time are all explained before a decision.

The explainer video will be added soon.

Frequently asked questions

Is reconstruction done in the same operation?

Often yes. Sometimes it is deferred to a second stage, depending on the excision and any other treatment.

Does reconstruction delay cancer treatment?

The plan is arranged so reconstruction does not delay necessary treatment. This is explained before surgery.

Is the result immediate?

The shape settles gradually as the wound heals and swelling eases, and it is reviewed at follow-up.
